Should you buy Zombucks?
What Are Zombucks?
Zombucks are essentially silver and copper rounds as well as silver notes that are Apocalyptic themed. So hence the name “Zom” for Zombie and “bucks”. Now to give some examples of rounds they produce, they mint coins such as the Pandamonium, which is based on the popular Chinese Panda bullion coins and their rounds show a decaying Panda. The First series had American coin types such as the Zombuff which pokes fun at the American Silver buffalo and the “Feast dollar” instead of the Peace dollar. Now personally these rounds to me really remind me of Garbage Pail kids.
As mentioned earlier, there is an interesting option one can buy, Zombucks silver notes. A Zombucks silver note essentially has one of their Apocalyptic themes and contains a sliver percentage of silver in them. Now we’ve seen things like this before with precious metals being used in “paper like form” for lack of a better term. Probably the most famous are gold backs, which contain tiny amounts of gold.
However, these silver notes really stand out to me due to the extremely low amount of silver per note and the high cost. Right now, these notes which include the World Pandamonium silver note, and two other varieties only contains 1/1000 of a troy ounce of silver. Now they’re selling these at a cost of $899(for 100). That’s 900 dollars basically for 1/10 an ounce of silver.
Now personally, I could never buy a lot of these because of the incredibly high amount that you would have to pay and the low silver you would get. Obviously, this is a very niche product and I imagine that manufacturing costs are a lot with having to create these designs and place tiny amounts of silver in each bill. Still, I find it somewhat frustrating the silver content isn’t a bit higher on these. This seems to make more sense as I think the manufacturing cost would be lower and I believe more people would want to buy them. They would have to make the bills thicker I’m sure, but I question just why they don’t add more silver. It could be the case they hope to not really sell those 100 bundles much but have lots of people just buy a few.
If you know why, comment as to why.
So based on the silver spot price of $27 a troy ounce (as of this post), each bill is worth only a few cents. And we know, or many of you probably know that many have tried to kill the penny for years as it costs more to make than it’s worth. I think that has become the case with nickels too.
All this said, I think Zombucks has some really cool products. Most of their rounds aren’t super pricey like we can see with unique designs. They go for around $31 to $32 a round, and with today’s spot price almost $27, it’s not abnormally high. The copper rounds are pricey but that’s pretty typical of what we see with other copper coins.
Now just to put things in perspective you’re paying over spot quite a bit too with gold backs. On JM bullion’s website, gold backs go for about $6.38 per note and you get 1/1000 an ounce of gold. That means if you bought a 1000 gold backs at a total price of $6,380, you’d be paying around 275%(approx.) over the spot price of gold. Surely not great from a “get as much gold as you can “buying perspective but definitely much better than the silver notes.
For me, overall, I like the themes and the products that Zombucks is putting out. I might even consider some rounds. However, the silver notes I’ll shy away from, especially buying in bulk.
